On September 6th, 2018 HWCG’s Board of Directors provided BSEE’s Gulf of Mexico Regional Director and his technical support staff with a biannual update that highlighted recent changes in membership, improvements made to organizational leadership and advisory roles, progress on improved response capability as a result of HWCG’s Single Vessel Solution (SVS) project and the sanctioning of the 20k Capping Stack. Other strategic initiatives were reviewed and meaningful discussions ensued on future initiatives. HWCG and its members appreciate the opportunity to discuss deepwater well containment response capabilities and potential improvements with BSEE to ensure our response model is thoroughly understood.
Additionally, HWCG’s Board of Directors provided Rear Admiral Paul Thomas of USCG District 8, his leadership team in New Orleans and other branches with a Capabilities Brief on HWCG’s response plan that detailed the HWCG business model, current and future response capabilities, as well as a high level review of subsurface risks, mitigations and recent regulatory impacts regarding deepwater well design and project management. HWCG and its members appreciate the opportunity to discuss deepwater well containment response capabilities with the USCG in order to establish a clear understanding and communication channels should a response be required in the future.
